Historic Dates

September 16, 1915: Petition to the SMC Board of Supervisors to establish a Fire Department.

December 21, 1915: Petion to the SMC Board of Supervisors to establish a Board of Commissioners.

January 3, 2016: Petion to the SMC Board of Supervisors to approve the Board of Commissioners.

June 16, 1916: Definition of the land area of the Fire District.

June 27, 1916: County election to form the Fire District - 100 in favor, 58 against- it passes.

Little-Known Facts

Dating from the late 19th century, Menlo Park had a small volunteer fire department. The original wooden building and some of the early apparatus still exists.

MPFPD formed June 27, 1916. The boundaries established in 1916 covered 12 sq. miles, today's boundaries cover 30 sq. miles.

The fire house built on Merrill St in 1918 was in use until 1955. It later became Dieter's Auto Repair. The site is now part of Menlo Center (Kepler's Book Store, Cafe Barrone)
