Shoe Repair

Menlo Joe's Shoe Repair at 1177 El Camino Real in Menlo Park (west side between Santa Cruz and Life Oak Avenues) does not strictly meet the criteria for a business older than 50 years [neither the name of the business nor the owner/family is continuous].

The history we know begins in 1920 when Irish-born E. Joe McLoughlin bought the shoe repair business from Tom Casey and renamed it McLoughlin's Shoe Shop. In the early years the business was in various nearby locations, but settled in at 1177 fairly early. This building was constructed in 1937.

Some time after 1975, the business was sold. The present owner bought it in 2000. The current name of the business is "Menlo Joe's Shoe Repair."

Printed on the door at 1177 is "Since 1902," which may refer to the Casey shoe repair business.
