Guild Theater

The Guild Theater opened in 1926 under the name Menlo Theater. It initially showed silent films accompanied by an organ. After a few years it converted to sound movies.

Beginning in 1937, El Camino Real through Menlo Park was widened by 2 lanes by moving the western (or southwestern) side of the street about 30 feet to the west. Several of the old structures, including the Doyle and Duff brick building on the corner of Santa Cruz Avenue, were demolished. Some of the smaller building were moved. In 1942, 30 feet were removed from the front of the Guild Theater's once spacious lobby.

Not long after this a new theater opened on the corner of Doyle and Santa Cruz Avenue. It was named Menlo Theater, and the old Menlo was then renamed the Guild Theater.
