I. control group: a group of subjects (or subject) which is not given the experimental treatment during a test so that they may be used as a comparison when results are evaluated

experimental group: a group of subjects (or subject) which is exposed to the experimental treatment during a test

control variable: also known as control or constant. A variable which remains unchanged throughout an experiment in order to test the impact of the independent variable
