You can bring a team of 20-24 students.
Each school is only assigned 4 cafeteria benches which is supposed to sit 5 students per bench comfortably (20 students total).Â
If you choose to bring 24 students, you will need to squeeze 6 students per bench. From experience, most students don't mind the tight space.
How to choose your team
Most schools have more than one grade 7 and 8 class. But each school can only send one team. So often teachers look for guidance in terms of deciding which students should participate.
Below are some ideas that middle school teachers have used in the past to choose their team. Each has it's benefits and drawbacks.
Only one teacher of one classroom of a split 7/8 class attends MSEO from year to year. Teachers will determine within their teaching team who that class is.
The rotatary science teacher chooses the team of students to attend.
The grade 7 & 8 teachers or the science teacher runs a simple science competition to choose the students to attend.
Students have to complete an application process to express their desire to attend. Teachers choose based on the application.
Teachers choose students based on their demonstrated leadership in the school or involvement in an existing STEM program/club.
Students sign up on a first come first serve basis.
If your school uses another method and would like to share, please email the MSEO director with the details so that it can be included on this website.
