Event Classification
A. Registered Events
These events require online registration prior to the Olympics. Registration gives us an accurate count of the number of participating schools which helps determine the quantity of the materials required and the physical logistics of the event.
An event registration link will be available to participating schools at the beginning of February. For more information go to "Event Registration".
Registered events are further divided into grades levels (grade 7 & 8). Open events are available to students of both grades.
B. Preparation Events
These events require preparation in your school prior to the Olympics. The finished product arrives at the Olympics for judging.
Typically there is one event that requires preparation:
The Engineering "prebuild" event involves constructing a device within a set of parameters in order to meet the given requirements.
Each school can only submit one device.
C. Drop-In Events
These events do not require online registration. Students who are not scheduled into an event during a particular time slot at the Olympics can participate in the drop-in events.
Drop-in events run the whole day. All members of a team may participate in drop-in events however, only the top result per school will count towards the school's overall ranking.
D. Teacher Event
Teacher events are meant to be fun (and sometimes a little silly). They are not curriculum based so you do not need to study or prepare for it.
Teacher events usually require 2 teachers, or 1 teacher and a student to participate.
Adult volunteers that are not teachers can not participate.
Schools that participate in this event will earn points regardless of their rank in the event.
