Starting over

Over winter, I had let my vegie patch go, waiting for things to die down so I could start over again. Not happy with my soil, I've been exploring alternatives to an inground vegie patch - containers, vertical growing and raised beds. I settled on raised beds. I preferred timber but didn't want to risk creating a banquet for termites, Nor did I want to have chemically treated timber. Then I discovered that cypress pine apparently has natural oils that deter termites (see http://www.cypressmulch.com.au/faqs.html). I settled on Birdies heritage timber raised beds for the following reasons: easy to assemble; flexible shapes and sizes; made from sustainable timber; affordable; and portable (didn't have to hire a trailer or pay for delivery).

So, I've bought five kits to create a U-shaped bed. Each kit contains 12 boards and 4 corner posts, as well as a few other bits and pieces, and can make a bed measuring 0.8m X 0.8m x 0.3m. So that's 60 boards and 20 posts to put together! Here goes.
