Volunteers Needed: Wheelchair ramp to be built for our neighbor’s son.

Post date: Mar 29, 2014 3:19:20 PM

Dear friends and neighbors,

Willow Oak residents the Harris family need our help. In November of 2013, the Harris family’s son, Marcus, suffered injuries from a skateboarding accident that left him in a coma. He has been treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital since his injury. Fortunately, Marcus is slowly coming out of his coma and is expected to return home on April 8, 2014. The Harris family’s neighbor, Phil Huber has organized an assist to help build a ramp so that Marcus’ care can continue with certain ease. Phil and Ridgeleigh Community Association would like to rally the community to help build this ramp and we are calling on all concerned citizens to help make this happen.

The project date will be April 5th beginning at 9am and will continue until the ramp is built. (A rain date has been tentatively set for April 6th at the same time.) Mennonite Disaster Service Project have already completed the design for the ramp. We are asking our friends and neighbors to contribute assistance in any way possible. We are seeking a team of volunteers to help with the building of the ramp. Our neighbor, Bobby Miller, is a skilled carpenter and has kindly agreed to assist with the construction but any additional assistance will help construction happen quicker and smoother.

If you are unable to assist with the construction, we still need your help! Donations can be made in a variety of methods: We are seeking financial assistance for supplies but we could also use the care of other neighbors to feed our volunteers and/or supply beverages for our dedicated workers.

If you are interested in making a financial contribution, please make the check payable to: Ridgeleigh Community Association, For: Marcus Harris Wheelchair Ramp project and send to Ridgeleigh Community Association, P. O. Box 9851, Towson, MD 21284. The donations will go to purchasing all necessary supplies and any financial contributions above the cost of supplies will be donated to the family for their continued care of their son.

If you are interested in volunteering to assist with the building of the ramp please contact Phil at pchuber@hughes.net Further details will be available once we gauge the structure of volunteers.

If you would like to provide food or beverages to our volunteers, please contact RCA President, Mike Kaspar at president@ridgeleigh.net

Anyone interested in volunteering at any level should respond by April 4, 2014. Let’s all rally together to help our neighbors in their time of need!

Kind regards,

Michael Kaspar
