About Us

Chicken Keeping in SE Portland since 2008

Hello! Leslie Pierce here, Lead Chicken Keeper.  :) We started our flock of 3 hens in 2008 in our SE Portland, urban backyard. Since then we've hosted over 100 chickens, some for many years, others for a matter of weeks. We have learned a lot! It's always been a family adventure and is continuing to be so as we embark on this small business that saw us sending 773 tiny chickens out into the world in 2021.

Chickens have fascinated me for as long as I can remember.  They keep me connected to the outside world, reflecting my rural upbringing while still being an urban dweller. I've watched chicken keeping decline in my neighborhood and am committed to making the journey into poultry keeping a supported one.

Prior to closing in February 2021, I had the pleasure of coordinating the chick season at Naomi's Organic Farm Supply. This experience was invaluable in teaching me how to coordinate a chick season that works for both urban and rural poultry keepers.  I know which breeds excite folx and how to match breeds to poultry keeping goals. Plus the connection to Naomi's has allowed me to build a network of small farms and businesses that will support you on your chicken keeping journey!

On the subject of small farms, since 2021, I have been part of the amazing team at Foglight Farms, a regenerative farm in rural Hillsboro, OR. We have the pleasure of working with over 400 pasture raised chickens. From making informed choices about what we're feeding them to writing health care plans, I just can't get enough of chickens! This experience has been invaluable in expanding my breadth of chicken keeping knowledge.

We are committed to building equity into this business.  As we learn the ways in which to do this, we're starting with committing 10% of profits to BIPOC led organizations.
