The Story Behind the Project

I work in IT on campus, and if students want to connect an IOT device (smart speakers, game consoles, smart plugs, TVs, etc), they have to find the device's MAC address and register it to the network. Depending on the device, this address can be difficult (or sometimes impossible) to find on the device itself. My boss wanted a device that we could use in the office to easily find the MAC address of any devices students brought in. And so, the MAC Finder was created! This device creates a wifi network, and displays the MAC address of devices on the built in screen as soon as you connect them to that wifi network.

Features

• Automatically turns off the network after 5 minutes of no connected devices, so the SSID isn't constantly being broadcast

• If multiple devices are connected, it shows the MAC of the most recently connected device, but lets you cycle through all of them with the button
