Utica High School Athletic Booster Club – March 2, 2020

In Attendance

Meeting was called to order at 7:15pm with 10 plus Board Members, Athletic Director: Karyn Holmes absent. Please refer to sign in sheet for name of attendees. REMINDER - Please be sure to sign into meetings so there is an accurate account of attendees.

Approval of Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

The February Minutes were reviewed, and a motion was made by Kelly Kessen and seconded by Carol Hitchcock, voted and approved. The February Treasurer’s Report was reviewed. Melissa Sharpe stated the bottom part of the $10,000 Raffle report was incorrect. The information was from last year. The raffle made $10,045.71(50/50, Last Chance tickets were up in sales – Bingo & our expenses were down). A motion was made by Jennifer Zybtowski and seconded by Kelly Kessen, voted and approved.

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

Karyn’s highlights: district girls basketball game; Karyn was not able to attend the meeting.

Old Business

$10,000 Raffle – was a success! Thank you to everybody that came and helped make it what it is! All went well! We did not mail tickets out this year, saving the boosters on stamps. The consensus amongst the group was to continue to not mail the tickets and have them available at check in that evening. We talked about making copies of everybody’s ticket numbers and placing them at the tables and possibly making posters.

Euchre fundraiser is March 27th, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens $25 per person in advanced $30 at the door. Food will be provided. Basket raffle and possibly last chance gift cards. Please contact Diann O’Connor to donate a gift card.

The position for Assistant Treasurer is still available. Discussion that we don’t need one at this time but if anybody is interested please contact Tara Powrozek.

Athletic Booster Scholarship application is on the web site and due April 16th to Dr. Perry in the Counseling office.

Lisa Fromm would like to THANK, DD McCollom and Lisa Narusch for coordinating basketball concession this season. Their help was much appreciated! Julie Powarski will be in-charge of girls soccer concessions this season. Thank you, Julie!

FEBRUARY MINUTES

Utica High School Athletic Booster Club – February 3, 2020

Approval of Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

The January Minutes were reviewed, and a motion was made by Jennifer Zybtowski and seconded by DD McCollom, voted and approved. The January Treasurer’s Report was reviewed, and a motion was made by Becky Keen and seconded by Jennifer Zybtowski, voted and approved. Quick Made Trophy check has not been cashed, it was written twice, all set now.

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

Karyn’s highlights:

• Wrestling won MAC Blue; still have divisional & districts coming up

• Boys Basketball & Girls Basketball tied in their division for 2nd place. Girls play Ford this week, big game

• MAC Tournament is coming for basketball - Girls Basketball hosting Feb. 12, then we wait to see what happens next. Boys are away first game

• Swim has county meet coming up this weekend

• Dance placed 4th in Jazz small group & 7th in Pom small group at Nationals in Orlando, Florida over the weekend

• Ice Hockey has Oxford & Romeo this week; they beat Ubly last week

• Bowling is going strong

• $10,000 Raffle – this Thursday contact Tara Powrozek with any questions. All set – doors open at 6:15pm, raffle strats at 7pm at the Shelby Gardens

• Euchre fundraiser is March 27th, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens. Tickets are available $25 per person in advanced $30 at the door. Mark Moehlig, Tara Powrozek & Katie Lelito met to discuss the night. Need non-players to help with raffles. See any coach or Mark, Tara or Katie for tickets.

• 2020-2021 Jennifer Zybtowski will be the treasurer.

• Becky Keen made a motion requesting $750 for the Senior All Night Party, seconded by DD McCollom

• Scholarship application is available on-line for Seniors. Parents, be sure to have volunteer obligation fulfilled

Utica High School Athletic Booster Club – January 6, 2020

Approval of Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

The December Minutes were reviewed, and a motion was made by Christy Pittel and seconded by Ang Micinski, voted and approved. The December Treasurer’s Report was reviewed, and a motion was made by DD McCollom and seconded by Kelly Kessen, voted and approved.

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

Karyn’s highlights:

· Things have been slow with the holiday break. There were bowling tournaments and hockey games during break.

· There will be a couple home boy & girl basketball games this week. Wrestling has a home tournament this week.

· There is a cheer competition, hockey game and bowling tournaments this week. Check the schedule for times & locations.

· We are not hosting any district tournaments this season.

New Business

· Utica Athletic Booster Scholarship application is available on the booster web site. Please be sure to read through the requirements with your athlete. There are requirements of the parents to fulfill in order to apply. Usually scholarship are awarded to 4 boys & 4 girls each year in the amount of $500. Applications are due no later than 2:30pm on April 16, 2020.

Old Business

· $10,000 Raffle - Ticket money is due, or you will give up your ticket. If you are not planning on taking your ticket this year, please let Tara Powrozek know as soon as possible. There is one person on the wait list at this time. The raffle will be held on February 6, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens. You can attend by purchasing a ticket for $30(food/drinks are included). Come join the fun!

· Euchre fundraiser is March 27th, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens. More information to come.

· The Treasurer position will be open next year. Please contact Tara Powrozek if you are interested. Now is a good time to be shadowing Melissa.

· Concessions Winter sports season – off to a great start! There is a parent chairing the concessions for both boys & girls basketball. Wrestling will staff their own if needed during their tournament.

Utica High School Athletic Booster Club – December 2, 2019

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

Karyn’s highlights:

• All Winter sports are in full swing

• Boys Basketball opens next Friday, Dec. 13 at home.

• Girls Basketball opens this Tuesday (Dec. 3) at home against Adams

• Volleyball had five players attend the All County Banquet last week. Alyssa Jacobs & Frankie Rea received Honorable Mention, Bri Rowoldt received 3rd team, Abby Rissman All County Defensive Team & All Region, Raeleen Sobetski 1st team All County & All Region

• Cheer added a Freshman Competitive team this year. There were a lot of girls that tried out, which is a good problem to have! Karyn was able to get the Freshman team into 4 competitions plus 2/3 MAC events. Very excited for the cheer program.

• Friday Nigh Madness raised $1400 for the Gremlins-Special Olympics basketball team. It a fun night to meet the teams and see the cheer & dance team do their thing. The Gremlins are very appreciative of the fundraiser. It greatly helps their program every year.

New Business

• Need a treasurer for 2020/21 school year. Melissa Sharp needs to step down to continue coaching. You cannot be on the board and coach at the same time. If you are interested in being the Utica Athletic Booster Treasurer, please reach out to Tara Powrozek or Melissa Sharp. It would be a good idea to start “shadowing” Melissa before she leaves. The $10,000 is a big event that Melissa handles all the funds that evening. We would suggest being at this event with her. Lisa Fromm suggested asking the Shelby & Eppler Jr. High principals to mention this position to their sounding boards.

• $500 will be going back in our account from the holiday family. The monies were not asked for this year.

Old Business

• $10,000 Raffle – The responses are coming in. We have had six people give up their ticket and we have sold all six already. We have two people on the wait list. If you are not planning on taking your ticket this year, please let Tara Powrozek know as soon as possible. There is a wait list if you would like to get on it contact Tara Powrozek. The raffle will be held on February 6, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens

• Euchre fundraiser is March 27th, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens.

• Concessions for boys/girls basketball season opens tomorrow. There is a sign-up genius for both to get involved & sign up to work the concessions. Lisa Narusch is handling the girls basketball concessions and DD McCollom is handling the boys. Lisa Fromm is always helping with concessions. Stacey Sobetski offered to help in anyway needed.

• Diann O’Connor mentioned to the group that Mrs. Bianchi (Jeff Bianchi’s wife – Jeff does most of our banner posters) works for a company that helps organizations put on craft shows. The organization would need to supply the man power to run the event. There was some discussion regarding the boosters taking on such an event. It needs to be looked into more especially the cost of using the building on a Saturday & Sunday.

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

Karyn’s highlights:

•Volleyball is at Districts as we speak at Ford II against Chippewa. They won. Next game is this Wednesday at 5pm at Ford II against Dakota.

•Football lost their last game against Chippewa. They played very well and ended on a good note.

•Soccer lost in the first round of districts a few weeks ago

•Girls swim is off to divisional this weekend at Marysville

•Congrats to Ella Fullmer – State Qualifier for Cross Country. First time in five years. She did well! She placed 167 out of 257

•Girls Basketball tryouts next Monday, Nov. 11

•Hockey tryouts started today, Monday, Nov. 4

•Dance team has their first competition this Saturday, Nov. 9 at Lake Orion

•Cheer tryouts Monday, Nov. 11

•Macomb United Figure Skating. We have three girls that compete on the team. They practice out of Suburban Ice

New Business

•Tara Powrozek mentioned that Mr. Lietz will be requesting a donation of $500 from the boosters for Hamlin for the Holidays. UCS is involved in supporting over 70 families in the district, some are from Utica High. This volunteer group of administrators/teachers/staff brings Thanksgiving and Christmas to these families in need. A motion was made by Kelly Kessen and seconded by Catherine Berg to donate $500 for this cause.

Old Business

•$10,000 raffle fundraiser letters are going out this week. There are is a waiting list already. The raffle will be held on February 6, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens

•Euchre fundraiser is March 27th, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens.

•50/50 raffle did ok this football season. Kelly Kessen and Bill Welch sold at the last game. The winner donated the funds back to the boosters. Kelly Kessen sold the winning ticket.

•Tara mentioned that any gambling fundraisers require a license. Please contact Tara to obtain the license.

•Senior All Night Party requested a donation of $750. Motioned by Kelly Kessen seconded by Carol Hitchcock

•Ed Fromm will be selling Utica merchandise at home basketball games. DD will put the Utica tumblers out at concessions for sale $20.

•Karyn mentioned that the Winter Sport Meeting will be Nov. 25th and team pictures will be the same day.

•Nov. 22nd is the Special Olympics Friday Night Madness fundraiser for boys & girls basketball. Cheer & dance will be there performing. Donations at the door will go to the Special Olympics basketball team to help them with their expenses.

•Cheer is having a Mom Prom fundraiser on May 15, 2020. This is for women 21 & older only. Dinner, open bar, dj, photobooth, vendors & raffle baskets. Theme is Through the Decades. It will be held at MCC Banquet Hall on 19 & Ryan $50

Tara asked the group to start looking at the coaches wish lists that was submitted by Karyn Holmes. We will vote on it under New Business.

•All members were in favor of approving the coaches wish lists

•Diann O’Connor asked if any teams did not turn in a wish list. Tennis said they were all set for boys & girls.

•Wish lists items for use year after year

•Wish list items were about $6000 less than last year

Old Business

•Concessions are going well! THANK YOU to DD McCollom for shopping, Elena Caporuscio, Sandi Vitale, Renea Gailey (Soccer), Stacey Sobetski (volleyball) for opening & closing every week. Carol Hitchcock asked about bringing in chips or cup of noodles. We can look at the expense.

•Euchre fundraiser is set for March 27, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens . The cost per person has gone up $1. We will have the downstairs level which is bigger.

•50/50 raffle still needs a chairperson at football games. No one signed up to sell. One family only offered to help. We may give it to the band for the last home game. We have made about $150-$175. Kelly Kessen offered to sell for next year.

•Website – Diann O’Connor – all is well. Football programs look good. Money is from ads. Players receive one at the banquet.

Utica High School Athletic Booster Club – September 9, 2019

Approval of Minutes and Treasurer’s Report

• The May Minutes were reviewed, and a motion was made by Ang Micinski and seconded By Craig Chunchick, voted and approved. The May Treasurer’s Report was reviewed, and a motion was made by Becky Keen and seconded by Catherine Berg, voted and approved. Melissa Radtke Sharp mentioned that deposits will not be accepted without the deposit slip that has been emailed to all coaches to use when turning in money to the boosters.

Athletic Director’s Report – Mrs. Karyn Holmes

We are all up and running with Fall sports. The calendar this year dictated that all sports started the same week because we “lost” a week with the way the calendar fell this year. So a lot happening at the same time……..

Karyn highlighted each team:

• Soccer is currently playing at Swinehart against Dakota. JV soccer started off strong. They were 8-0 going into their game against Dakota, but they came up short.

• Varsity Football is 2-0 to start off their season. They have Henry Ford II at home this Friday

• Varsity Volleyball won the Birch Run Tournament this past weekend. They play at Fraser on Tuesday and at home this Thursday.

• Varsity Swim opens at home this week

• Cross Country is doing well

• Tennis is doing well

New Business

• $10,000 raffle is our biggest fundraiser. Letters will go out in November. Let Tara Powrozek know if you would like to put on the wait list. The raffle will be held on February 6, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens

• Euchre fundraiser is tentatively set for March 27, 2020 at the Shelby Gardens

• Coaches wish list: all coaches have received the email requesting their wish list by September 24, 2019

• 50/50 raffle needs more volunteers. Let Tara Powrozek know if you would like help. The band will be selling 50/50 at the home game this week to raise funds for the band (9/13/19). Candace sold at our first game and we gave away $174. She will continue to help sell.

• There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony at halftime at this week’s game (9/13). The Superintendent and board members will be in attendance to dedicate the new field.

• Homecoming concession needs help. Lisa Fromm is coordinating the volunteers. It is the booster’s responsibility to staff concessions at the homecoming game. Typically, alumni and/or their parents come back to help. Please reach out to family and friends to volunteer. Historically, concessions are very busy at the homecoming game.

• Cheer will be doing a fundraiser tailgate. Please see a cheerleader/cheer coach for more information. Everybody is welcome to participate for a small donation(fee).

• Tailgate this Friday starting at 5pm in the corner of the parking lot. Bring a dish to pass. Tents & tables will be set up! Everybody is welcome to join in the festivities.

• Becky Keen requested a donation for the SANP (Senior All Night Party) per DD McCollom (unable to attend the meeting). Melissa Radtke Sharp stated that a budget will be set for the booster club in October. At that time we will take a look at our budget for this donation.
