RBERS JUNE 2014 BREAKFAST MEETING NOTES

WELCOME NEW GUESTS

RBERS RBERS@live.com https://sites.google.com/site/rbers9212728

Encourage those you know to check into our weekly net on SAT mornings at 0800 on 146.55 simplex.

Monday nights at 2000 Fritz is net control for a short CB channel 31 check in followed by an FRS channel 1 net. We do not use a privacy code on FRS radios. If you know someone with a CB or FRS radio let them know.

In tests we have found that FRS appears to work as good as CB in RB and that they both have a place in or communications plan.

Last night RBERS held it first Friday night 1830 Emergency preparedness net using the 145.18 (-) 107.2 PL and 445.68 (-) 123.0 PL repeaters located on Mt Woodson and Black Mt. Please check the RBERS web site for net topic reference materials. Send any suggestions for future topics to RBERS@live.com. This weeks topic was “When fire safe landscaping will not save your home.”

Last month we agreed to allow member an opportunity to gain experience acting as net control for the Sat net. If you are interested please let me know and I will arrange for you to take one Sat.

I am also looking for members to act as net control for the Friday night emergency preparedness net.

I would like to form a group of members to discuss our plans for the next 12 months. If interested let me know.

As always we are always looking for new member to join our group.

I encourage everyone to take the FEMA on-line ICS training. Incident Command System (ICS) is used by all government agencies and is required by all Emergency Responders, CERT, Red Cross, etc.

Recommended classes are 100b, 200b, 700a, 704, and 800b. Classes can be found at http://training.fema.gov/IS/NIMS.aspx.

Classes are on-line and take about an hour each followed by a simple test. It you pass you can print out your certificate. Since all emergency are required to take these courses, we should also attempt to have these certificates.

We should also become familiar with the ICS 213 message form. It is the General Message form used by all public service agencies to pass and track messages. In an emergency we would be required to use these forms.

RBERS has registered with the Great California Shakeout Earthquake drill. The actual event occurs on Oct 16th at 10:16 when we all should drop, cover, and hold. Our RBERS Drill on the 18th is tied to the Shakeout an an earthquake activation. We can create and send earthquake drill message traffic.

If you have not filled out the DSW insurance form I encourage you to do so.
