SNC 1D1 Project: SCIENCE IN THE NEWS SCRAPBOOK

Due Date:

As part of the developing scientific literacy, students will produce a scrapbook of current science based articles on an ongoing basis. The articles must come from a reputable and current source, and must be displayed in a neat, attractive manner. Each article will also be briefly summarized in the student’s own words.

Sources: Current (No earlier than date assigned) newspapers and periodicals.

Suggestions: Toronto Star, National Post, Globe and Mail, Macleans, Time,

Popular Mechanics, Newsweek, Science, etc.

Number of Articles:

· A minimum of 7 articles and a maximum of 10 articles.( Depending on the length of the article)

· The articles should be drawn from at least two different sub-disciplines of science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geology, Astronomy, Biotechnology, Ecology), and should be grouped accordingly.

Presentation:

· Articles must be pasted neatly into scrapbook or onto loose-leaf pages placed in a duo-tang binder.

· Articles must be grouped into a minimum of 2 different areas, each with its own subheading.

· Each article must have the following:

o key points underlined and highlighted.

o date and source of article clearly indicated

o A brief summary of the key content of the article provided in your own words.

· The project must also include a title page and table of contents.
