The Walk Of The World

In 2009 I started with hiking. I trained for about half a year for the Nijmeegse Vierdaags, The Walk Of The World. In the summer of 2009 I hiked the whole 4 Days of each 40 km for myself and MYBODY (Rutgers Label). It was intense and afterwards I was tired but hit with the hiking virus.

Camino De Santiago

My next hiking challenge came in 2016. I decided to turn inwards and look while hiking at what had become of my life and what I still wanted from life. I hiked the green route of the Camino, Camino Portuguese. I started the Camino Portuguese in Lisbon and finished in Santiago the Compostela tired of the hike, but full of energy to get to the new goals set in my head during the hike.

Hiking The Netherlands

In 2017 I started looking for hikes and joined a hiking group, but the hikes were not reachable on Sunday without a car. I decided to hike on my own and the goal to walk all NSHikes was born. So far, I hiked all the NSWalks in the province of Noord-Brabant and well on my way with the ones in the provinces Utrecht and Zuid-Holland.

The Pieterpad, The East Border Of The Netherlands

The goal was to hike another long-distance hike, but this time in parts. I chose the most famous one in The Netherlands, The Pieterpad. I started in 2019 and finished the Pieterpad in 2020. The Pieterpad showed me how beautiful The Netherlands can be. I started traveling each time for a hike of about 23 km on the Pieterpad from Eindhoven and back. Later in 2020 I did the same from Nieuwegein. Sometimes I was longer on the way to the hiking stage than hiking due to COVID restrictions and the location of the path. The Pieterpad is a hike from Pieterburen to St. Pietersberg in Maastricht or vice versa. This hike was about seeing the beauty around me.

A True Hiking Challenge

De Nacht van de Vluchtelingen 2019 (The night of the refugees) was not only a physical challenge, but also a battle for me with not sleeping a whole night to hike and hike in the dark. I started in Rotterdam and hiked 40 km to Den Haag. Before the start I saw the sun go down near the Erasmus bridge. I liked hearing the frogs at night in the ponds I passed on the way to Den Haag.

Why Not Another Run At Hiking 4 Days In A Row

I was looking for organized hikes in Europe and came across 4 Days of Marbella. Luckily not 40 km each of the 4 Days, but 20 km each day. All though it may had the same effect due to the hills in the route each day. It was fantastic hiking in the mountains surrounding Marbella and on the beach. Each day another route around Marbella with the same starting and ending point. Although this hike was well into the fall, it felt like summer during the day in 2019.

A Unique Hike In Spain

I was there for the 4 Days of Marbella in 2019 and was lucky to get a ticket for the Camino Del Rey. Although it is only 3 km it takes hours and safety is the first priority during this hike. I was geared with a helmet at all times and sometimes I was clicked to a safety personnel to pass a risky part. Camino Del Rey is safe by obeying the rules and following instructions. It is more than worth it with spectacular views of the valley, trains passing, waterfalls, lakes, etc.

Again De Nacht van De Vluchtelingen

In 2023 I went for another 40 km during the night of the refugees. This time in my own region Utrecht. I hiked from Amersfoort to greet the sun entering Utrecht. Sleep was my biggest enemy during this hike, but all was compensated by hearing the birds in the morning. It is different hiking the region of Utrecht by night than by day.

Hiking The Route Of The Second World War In The Netherlands

In 2023 I hiked Westerborkpad the Second World War path through the Netherlands from Amsterdam to Westerbork. This path is full of information about the victims of the Second World War. It is about the stories of the survivors, the dead, and the soldiers. The whole route follows the railway from West to East through nature and villages.
