Running VS Hiking

When I came back from Australia in 2014, I met a running coach at the community center, where I gave Excel before going to the Pacific. The running coach coached some women in running on Tuesday mornings. I couldn't say no and joined. My condition was good when I returned from the many walks in Bali, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia. So I was able to complete the workouts, but there is one thing I didn't like about running. When walking I can take in the environment in peace and quiet and I missed that when running. Also, while walking I am busy with all kinds of ideas that pop into my head, but during running I was only concerned with the clock. So after a month I decided to say goodbye to running and continue walking.

Running Plunged Into Oblivion

Running fell into oblivion until my aunt texted me in mid-June 2018. She had won a trip to The Netherlands including participation in the KLM Scheveningen beach run. She asked me if I had time. I thought to encourage, always! But no, she also registered me. Lately I have traveled less and walked less so I am in a bad condition physically. But whatever I said, I was and remained registered!

Running On Sneakers

Most people who know me know that I don't easily say no to a challenge to try something new if I am interested in the subject. I went to Den Haag to meet my aunt and to participate in the run without running shoes. Well I don't play tennis anymore, so I don't have decent footwear, just sneakers.

Running on Sand

Early Sunday I went to Beachclub Oscars. There it was full of real runners who trained daily and therefore would do the 10 or 5 km. I was impressed and even more so when I heard that the whole parcourse was on sand. Where do I start?

Where Do I Start?

I started in good spirits. I would see how long I could keep running in the sand. Well it was a 1,5 km run and the rest walking at a high pace. Yes, I can walk at a high pace, but I can't run on sand. Man, man was that heavy!

Never Running On Sand Again

Afterwards I told my aunt, now the readers and myself that I never want to run a race again and certainly not on the beach. It was 'gezellig' with my aunt. I played tourist in Scheveningen and Rotterdam with her after the run.

Hiking On Sand Better Than Running On It

At the beginning of August 2018 I am going to walk 20 km on the beach in two days. Well, the sand is heavy, but walking should be possible, right?
