Deposit Fire Department

The Deposit Fire Department Logo features a Lumberjack in turnout gear holding an axe and rescue tool.  The Lumberjack represents our communities long history in the logging and timber industries.  Vast quantities of lumber were drawn on sleighed during the winter months from as far away as Susquehanna and deposited on the river banks awaiting the spring high waters when the logs were fashioned into rafts and floated to the Philadelphia market.  Today, the logging and timber industries are still very much a part of our community.  Our department protects several large timber industries including a wood pellet manufacturing plant, wood furniture manufacturing plant and a green lumber company.  In addition to these large timber industries there are several smaller logging companies and fine wood working businesses.  However, our community is not limited to these industries.  We also are home to several stone docks, a turf manufacturing facility, a wind turbine farm, a printing company, a globally known tool manufacturing company and much more.

Our protection district has a little bit of everything to offer.  In addition to the industrial areas of our district, we have a more densely populated area with the Village of Deposit.  In the village you find all the normal building that you would find in any other small town U.S.A.  We have apartment buildings, multi-story commercial buildings, schools, single family homes and recreational areas.  We also have a municipal water system which allows us to have fire hydrants throughout the village.  Outside the village, you find a more rural setting with large homes, farms and other agricultural related businesses.  Here, there is no municipal water system which makes firefighting more difficult.  As a result of our varying protection district, our Firefighters have to be trained in both urban and rural firefighting tactics/strategies.

From a rescue stand point, our Firefighters and E.M.S. Providers are faced with just as wide a range of calls.  Our district includes several recreational lakes, a state park, several state forests, a reservoir, a river, railroad service and a four lane highway resulting in a wide range of incidents throughout the year.

Our fire department operates out of one station strategically located in the Village of Deposit at the center of our protection district.  We are a village run department meaning all of the apparatus and equipment is village owned.  Our department is primarily funded by the tax payers.  All of our Firefighters and E.M.S. Providers are volunteer.
