PASSAT B6 FRONT FOG LIGHT CIRCUIT

PASSAT B6 FRONT FOG LIGHT RETRO-FiT.

This is not “How to fit front fog lights”

This is an explanation of the front fog light wiring circuit on the Passat B6.

For the front fog light retro-fit you will need;

New front grill

Two fog lights

New light switch (with front fog contact)

Wiring looms (2)

This information is for people wishing to do their own wiring rather than buy wiring looms.

You will need connector repair leads (from VW) and some suitable cable.

Repair leads are double ended and come in a variety of sizes.

You need at least 1 for 0.35 mm wire and 2 for 2.5 mm wire.

The wiring circuit looks like this;

Simple guide to wiring.

You don’t have to do it in this order, but I suggest you do.

1. Remove the bulbs from the fog lights.

2. Connect pin 2 of both fog lights to some 2.5 mm brown cable and run this to a suitable earth.

(If you want it to look professional, search out an existing earth link)

ANY FURTHER WORK SHOULD BE DONE WITH THE BATTERY EARTH LEAD DISCONNECTED

3. Remove the BLACK 11 pin connector from the central electrics unit.

Insert a repair lead into the connector at position Pin 2. Connect this repair lead to a

length of 2.5 mm cable and route it to Pin 1 of the LEFT fog light. (IF you want it to look

professional use the correct colour cable)

4. Remove the BROWN 11 pin connector from the central electrics unit.

Insert a repair lead into the connector at position Pin 4. Connect this repair lead to a

length of 2.5 mm cable and route it to Pin 1 of the RIGHT fog light. (IF you want it to look

professional use the correct colour cable)

5. Refit the BLACK and BROWN connectors.

6. Remove the original light switch and disconnect the wiring connector.

7. Insert a repair lead into the light switch connector at position 5. Connect this to a length of

0.35 mm cable. (use the correct colour to look professional).

8. Fit new switch with rewired connector.

9. Route the other end of this wire to the Central electrics control unit.

10 Disconnect the BLACK 16 Pin plug from the central electrics unit. Add a repair wire to Pin 6 of the

BLACK 16 pin connector.

11. Join the repair wire to the wire from the light switch.

12. Refit bulbs to front fog lights.

13. Replace battery earth lead.

If you are really lucky, the front fog lights will now work. This is unlikely as the central electrics unit

needs to be “told” that you have fitted front fog lights.

To activate the front fog lights you will need VCDS or a dealer.
