CRUISE CONTROL RETROFIT B5 PASSAT

Passat B5 CCS.

Cruise control wiring harness and switch.

Before starting any work.

DISCONNECT THE BATTERY

Adjust the steering wheel to allow maximum access to the rear of the wheel.

Remove air bag by releasing

Tabs from behind.

To release tab, push screwdriver into hole and lever gently.

Turn the steering wheel to “straight ahead”.

Mark wheel and column to help with alignment when refitting.

Remove the central multi spline bolt.

Lift off steering wheel..

When refitting steering wheel bolt, tighten to 60Nm.

This bolt may be used up to 5 times. It should be marked with a pin punch each time it is refitted.

Ensure that a gap of at least 3mm is between the steering wheel and the reset ring.

Remove two screws (arrows) and lift away top steering column cover (1)

Remove two screws (arrows) and bolt (1).

Release column adjustment lever (2) and remove lower column trim (3)

Disconnect the connectors from;

The reset ring,

the slip ring and the

steering column switch.

Undo screw (1),

release the locking lugs (arrows) and pull the steering column switch assembly off.

Secure the stop ring/slip ring with sticky tape to stop it from rotating away from the central position.

Release the indicator switch locking lug with a screwdriver.

Pull the indicator switch away from the wiper switch assembly.

Replace the indicator switch with the new cruise control/indicator switch.

Remove dashboard end cover.

Remove lower dash cover screws (arrows)

Remove lower dash cover.

Disconnect connectors from the light switch (3) and headlamp height adjuster (4).

Slide cover (1) upwards and wedge in place with a screwdriver. (red)

Remove the two screws (arrows)

Remove steering column surround (3).

Undo mounting screws (C)

for the relay plate.

Pull the relay plate and central electrical system downwards.

It may be necessary to loosen bolted connections (D).

Slacken fixing nut (A) and screw (B) and lift the additional relay plate out of it’s mountings.

Remove the screws form the cover of the ECU protective housing and take off the cover.

Use a screwdriver to release the ECU clamp by levering gently in the direction of the arrow.

Remove the clamp.

Disconnect all of the plug connections at the plug board.

Remove two screws (arrows) from the plug board.

Release/remove the wiring harness cable clip to allow freedom of movement of the plug board.

Pull the plug board, as far as possible, down into the drivers foot well.

Unclip connector housings from the plug board;

White (T15a)

Brown (T10d)

Yellow (T10a).

Release the wiring harness cable clip.

Remove the protection shield (arrow).

Run the new Cruise Control system wiring harness through the opening.

Try to keep it tight against the existing wiring.

Diesel engine models.

Release catch (1) from the Orange (T10e) connector housing and pull out the catch (arrow) to release the pins.

Use a pin removal tool to release the contact for pin 8.

(Red/white cable)

Connect this released contact to the red/white cable of the Cruise control wiring harness. (Use supplied connector)

Insert the other red/white cable from the cruise control wiring harness in to the connector housing at Pin 8 slot.

Lock the connector housing.

Petrol Engine models….

Release locking lug (1) on White (T15a) connector housing.

Slide connector housing upwards to open it.

Release catch (2).

Connect new cruise control contacts to the housing as follows;

Red/grey cable to Pin 7

Red/yellow cable to Pin 9

Blue cable to Pin 8

Black/white cable to Pin 10

Slide the housing closed and make sure it is locked.

Reassemble the wiring etc

Reconnecting the battery

Petrol engine models.

Release catch (1) of the Brown (T10d) connector housing and pull out catch (arrow).

Use a pin removal tool to release the contact for pin 8.

(Black/red cable)

Connect this released contact to the red/white cable of the Cruise control wiring harness. (Use supplied connector)

Insert the other red/white cable from the cruise control wiring harness in to the connector housing at Pin 8 slot.

Lock the connector housing.

Activating Cruise Control

Installation instructions for retrofitting cruise control to a Passat B5 TDI or petrol engine with an electronic accelerator pedal

Clip the white T15a connector housing back onto the plug board.

Refit the plug board in the protective housing in the engine bay.

Reconnect all plugs and refasten cable clips.

Ensure no wiring is under tension. or trapped.

Before reconnecting the battery terminals ensure that;

No-one is in the car.

Ignition is switched on.

Doors are closed.

NOW reconnect battery.

To activate cruise control, take the car to a dealer or use a diagnostic tool such as VCDS.

Check 01. Engine

Look for the current Cruise control code stored.

“OOOOSG” means cruise control is not activated

“GOOOSG” means cruise control is activated.

If cruise control is not activated,

Go to Login 11

Enter code 11463 to activate cruise control.

Below is a schematic of the new cruise control wiring for a DIESEL model.

From left to right the wire colours are;

red/white, red/yellow, blue, red/grey, black/white.
