B6 TOWBAR 7 WAY BYPASS WIRING

TEB7AS BYPASS RELAY WITH BUZZER.

CHART 1. RELAY INPUT CONNECTIONS.

*On some cars these two are swapped round.

CHART 2. RELAY OUTPUT CONNECTIONS

CHART 3. 12N SOCKET CONNECTIONS

Connect the 12V relay terminal to the battery via a 15A fuse. About 5m of 2mm cable. LEAVE THE FUSE OUT. You can connect direct to either fuse box but spare fuse holders are not always present.

Connect 1.5m of 7 core trailer cable to the 12N socket as shown in chart 3.

Feed the trailer cable through a grommet into the car.

Connect 6 of these wires to relay terminals 1,2,4,5,6,& 7 as shown in chart 2.

Connect the white wire to a good chassis earth. (On wheel arch in car)

Connect six of the relay input wires to the Passat loom as shown in chart 1.

Connect the white input wire to a good chassis earth.

Only connect the grey input wire if you want a reverse light. (This will then need a Yellow wire from the R terminal to pin 1 on a 12S socket.)

TT terminal is for adding a flashing lamp. If you wire this the buzzer won’t work.

It doesn’t matter which side of the car you use to route the trailer wire in.

There is a suitable hole with grommet on each side. If you use the right side, the wiring for brakes, right indicator, right tail and fog light can be connected there.

The yellow and black relay input wires will then have to be extended 1.5m to reach the left side indicator and tail light wires. (The grey wire will need extending to the left side if you want to include reverse)

You can get to the light wiring without removing the side trim BUT it is almost impossible to reach the reverse and fog light wires with trim in place.

Trim removal and refit is a nightmare……You have been warned.

As a first time DIY job this can easily take two days so be prepared.

Side trim removal.

Fold rear seats flat first.

Remove lashing eyes and bag hook by undoing torx screws.

Remove rear seat side plastic trim, next to door, by levering with a screwdriver.

Lever out the plastic rivet in top right corner of side trim. (It’s under the seat side plastic trim)

Pull side panel away at boot edge (two clips) and push up at side window (4 clips).

If you don’t mind working in a tight space you can now leave the side trim pulled half way out.

The reverse light wire is behind the left trim and the fog light wire is behind the right trim.
