Attendance Policy
CLASSROOM ATTENDANCE
Students are expected to maintain good classroom attendance. They should be in class and arrive on-time to work. On-time means in the room and prepared to begin warmups when the final bell rings. Students who are still in the hallway or are inside the classroom but not prepared to begin warm-ups will be counted tardy. Theatre is a group effort and each person has a role to play in making each class period successful. Their classmates will be counting on them to be present and prepared.
PERFORMANCE AND REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE
Conflicts – should be clearly stated on the audition form. No conflicts are accepted for the 2 weeks before a production opens. Students with too many conflicts on the audition form may not be able to be cast.
Excused Absences including illness – Company members are allotted three excused absences from rehearsals. If the number exceeds three, company members may be removed from the production. An excused absence is one that is made in advance or an emergency that we are made aware of prior to rehearsal. Please call, email, or text the directors as soon as possible if this occurs.
Unexcused absences – An understudy will be put in the show until the director can make a decision. Removal from the production may result from a “no call... no show.” Unexcused absences may include any absence not listed on your conflict sheet that is not an emergency. Examples – work, family, trips, school trips, other rehearsals, other meetings, detention, parents not allowing students to attend rehearsal, appointments (non-emergency) voice or dance lessons, and parents removing students from rehearsal or performance early with no previous communication.
To maintain points you must attend all Theatre Meetings after school.
Please be aware that if you have to be removed from the play there is always someone who wants your part and is willing to take your place.
If you are removed from a show you will not be refunded your show fee.
LATE PICK-UP FROM ACTIVITIES
We do our best to keep parents informed of when we will be finished with rehearsal or return from competitions or field trips. Especially late at night, it is extremely important that students are picked up promptly and at the time requested. Your Viper Theatre Director has to stay with students until they are picked up. Because everyone’s time is precious we have the following consequences for late pick up:
15 minutes late- student gets one demerit
30 minutes late- student gets two demerits
45 minutes late- student gets three demerits
1 hour late- HISD police will be called and the student will receive four demerits.
Repeated offenses will result in the student not being allowed to participate in activities that happen outside of school.
Students will NOT be penalized in the case of emergencies.
