Description of Theatre Arts Classes:
T h e a t r e A r t s I
This introductory theatre course will focus on creative expression through theatrical performance and design. Students will become skilled at employing: acting techniques, movement & body control, proper vocalization methods, and the development of characters from different periods and styles of drama. Students will explore historical and cultural studies in theatre and have opportunities to see live professional theater.
Students will be required to attend the ETC Fall Show and the ETC Musical in the Spring. Theatre student's tickets will be discounted at $3 per ticket.
T h e a t r e A r t s II
This intermediate theatre course is an extension and further exploration of the concepts and training covered in Theatre I. Students of Theatre Arts II will refine their skills in theatrical creative expression. This class will have a heavier focus on Performance. Levels of expectations and approaches will vary depending on the assignment.
Students will be required to attend the ETC Fall Show and the ETC Musical in the Spring. Theatre student's tickets will be discounted at $3 per ticket.

This Upper-Level theatre course will be a performance-based course in which students will complete multiple small to mid-size productions throughout the course. They will tackle more rigorous and challenging material and expectations surrounding technique and delivery will be increased.

This introductory technical theatre course will be heavily focused on theatrical design. These students will work in conjunction with Theatre I students in our JV Production classes to create designs and implementations for project coursework. They will learn the basics of each category of technical theatre and get trained in basic shop safety and procedures.
Tech II-III
This intermediate technical theatre course will also work in conjunction with Theatre II and Theatre III-IV to design and implement technical theatre elements within program coursework. However, this class will also focus on application. Students will earn shop safety and procedures as well as tool safety and use. They will utilize shop, lighting, and sound equipment to realize design ideas and practice skills.

P r o d u c t i o n I - IV
The prerequisite for this course is Theatre Arts I and/or teacher approval. This class will build upon the foundations of Theatre and Tech I-IV but will explore play production more in-depth through application and specifically public performance. Students are required to see one play in the Fall, and in the Spring, and turn in the programs/playbills. These students will participate in a year-long play analysis project, a year-long Elements and Principles of Design project, and be directly involved with all Elkins Theatre shows, events, fundraisers, and functions.
