Betty Holt in England has compiled this wonderful collection of scriptures which conclusively show that Jesus Christ is indeed LORD, Jehovah, God. So many people today dispute this, but a careful study of these scriptures will give all the assurance needed. You would do well to print this out and keep it by your front door so that the next time Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormons knock, you will have all the proof you need right there at your fingertips.

THE DEITY OF JESUS CHRIST

Jesus is Exalted by God the Father

• Exodus 20:4,5 “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of

Any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them: for I the Lord (Adonai) thy

God (Elohim) am a jealous God.”

c. f.

Heb. 1:2,3,6 & 8 “he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.(God)hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son, whom He hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also He made the worlds; Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.” (This last sentence is quoted from Psalm 45:6.)

• Philippians 2:6, 9-11 “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Wherefore, God also hath highly exalted Him and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Adonai) to the glory of God (Elohim) the Father.”

• Romans 14:10-12 “For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written (in Isaiah 45:23), As I live saith the LORD, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.”

• II Corinthians 4:6 “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

• Ephesians 1:20-23 “Which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: God hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the Head over all things to the Church, Which is His body, the fullness of Him that filleth all in all.”

• Colossians 1:18b, 19 “That in all things He might have the pre-eminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell.”

• Hebrews 1:6, And again, when he [God] bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.”

• II Peter 1:17 “For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, ‘This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.’”

Jesus Christ Has the Same Attributes as God the Father

Eternal

Isaiah 44:6 “Thus saith Jehovah, the King of Israel, and his redeemer Jehovah-Sabaoth, I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Compare with:

Revelation 1:11, “Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last:…”

The next several verses contain a description of the Son of Man (another name for Jesus Christ), Who was speaking.

Rev. 1:17, “I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last…”

Rev. 1:18, “Fear not: I am the first and the last; I am he that liveth and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

Creator

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth.” The rest of the chapter continues using Elohim, describing creation in some detail.

c.f.

John 1:1-3, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

Colossians 1:15,16, “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

Hebrews 1:2,10 “[God] Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;”

“And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands:” (Verses 10-12 are quoted from Psalm 102:25-27).

Omniscient

Psalm 69:5, O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.”

Psalm 139:3,4, Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

c.f.

John 1:47-49, “Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite in whom is no guile! Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.”

John 2:24,25 “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”

John 4:16-19,29 “Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: Is not this the Christ?”

John 16:29,30 “His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.”

John 21:17 “And he [Peter] said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things;…”

Omnipresent

Jeremiah 23:24 “Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

- - - - - - - -

Isaiah 9:6,7 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice form henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.”

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from, everlasting.”

God the Father and God the Son share the same Names

Elohim

Gen. 1:1 and whole chapter “In the beginning, Elohim created the heaven and the earth.” This name is also used throughout the Old Testament.

c.f.

Mark 2:5-12 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but Elohim only? And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.”

Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore, the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Matthew 1:23 “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, Elohim with us.

Adonai

Isaiah 1:24 “Therefore saith Adonai, Jehovah-Sabaoth, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of mine adversaries, and avenge me of mine enemies.”

Throughout the Book of Ezekiel, Jehovah is also called

Adonai Jehovah over and over again.

Jesus Christ is also called Adonai over and over again, throughout the New Testament.

Jehovah

Exodus 2:13,14 And Moses said unto Elohim, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say to them, The Elohim of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say unto me, What is his name? What shall I say unto them? And Elohim said unto Moses, I AM that I AM; and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”

Psalm 25:1 Jehovah is my shepherd, I shall not want.

c.f.

John 10:11 Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”

John 4:25,26 “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee AM he.”

John 6:35 “And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.”

John 8:12 “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

John 10:7 “Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.”

John 11:25,26 “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:” And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”

John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

Jehovah-Sabaoth (Jehovah of Hosts)

Isaiah 6:1-3 “In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw also Adonai sitting upon a throne…Holy, holy, holy is Jehovah-Sabaoth: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Verse 8 “I heard the voice of Jehovah…”

Matthew 26:52,53 “Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?”

Jehovah-Rophe (Jehovah Who Heals)

Exodus 15:26 “And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy Elohim, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am Jehovah who healeth thee.”

During His entire three years’ ministry, the Lord Jesus healed very many people, delivered those who were demon-possessed, and raised the dead.

Jehovah-M’Kaddesh

Leviticus 20:8 “And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.”

c.f.

I Corinthians 6:11 “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”

Ephesians 5:25,26 “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word.”

Hebrews 2:11 “For both he (Jesus Christ) that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,”

Jehovah-Shallom (Jehovah is Peace)

Judges 6:24 “Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD and called it Jehovah-shallom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.”

c.f.

John 14:27 “Peace I [Jesus] leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

John 16:33 “These things I [Jesus] have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

Jehovah-Tsidkenu (Jehovah is Righteousness)

Jeremiah 23:6 “In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”

c.f.

Romans 5:18 “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.”

This verse is comparing the downfall caused by Adam’s sin with the salvation provided by Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:4 “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

I Corinthians 1:30 “But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.”

II Corinthians 5:21 “For he (God) hath made him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (Jesus).”

Some More of Jesus’ Own Claims

Luke 4:18,19 (quoting from Isaiah 61:1-8) “The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Verse 21 “And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.”

Matthew 26:64 “Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.”

The Pharisees understood well that Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah of God (and therefore, God), because they then accused him of blasphemy, (vs. 65).

Luke 17:18 After only 1 of the 10 lepers Jesus healed came back to thank him, He said, “There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger.”

Luke 19:31 “And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? Thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.”

John 8:19 “Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also”

John 8:58 “Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”

John 10:30 “I and my Father are one.”

John 12:45 “And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me.”

John 13:31,32 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.”

John 14:21,23 “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”

John 16:7 “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”

Throughout this chapter, the Lord Jesus is telling his disciples that He will send the Comforter, who is the Holy Spirit, to those who keep His sayings and truly love Him. Only God could send the Holy Spirit, so we see from this verse alone that Jesus is God.

John 17:22-24 “And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.”

This last phrase also shows Christ’s eternal existence.

Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

The Testimony of Others

A Crowd of People

Luke 7:16 “And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people.”

Thomas

John 20:28 “And Thomas answered and said unto him [Jesus], My Lord and my God.”

The Apostle John

John 1:1-4, 14, 18 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

John 1:14,18 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.”

John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

I John 3:16 “Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us…”

John 12:37-41 “But though He had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. These things said Esaias, when he saw His glory, and spake of Him.

(John quoted these verses from Isaiah 53:1 and Is. 6:10, saying that Isaiah was speaking of Messiah, Jesus Christ, when he saw His glory.)

I John 5:7 “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

I John 5:20 “And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life,”

The Apostle Paul

Romans 9:5 “Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

II Corinthians 4:3,4 “But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world [Satan] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious Gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

II Cor. 5:19 “…God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself…”

Philippians 2:5ff- 11 Jesus Christ: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Colossians 1:15-19 “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature (quoted from Psalm 89:27) For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;” (This whole passage is about the Lord Jesus Christ.)

Colossians 3:9,10 “For in Him [Christ] dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power:” (omnipotent)

I Timothy 3:16 “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

Titus 2:13 “Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.”

The Apostle Peter

II Peter 1:1 “Simon Peter a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Peter was referring to Isaiah 8:13 “Sanctify Jehovah-Sabaoth himself: and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.” When he wrote, “But sanctify Adonai Elohim in your hearts…with meekness and fear.” I Peter 3:15

The Lord Jesus accepted the worship of Peter and Thomas, and of all who bowed before Him. If He had not truly been God, then God would have struck Him dead on the spot, as He did to King Herod when he accepted the praise of men. “And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god,and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.” (Acts 12:21-23).

There are, of course, many other passages that reveal that Jesus Christ is God. But these are enough to open the eyes of anyone who truly wants to see God’s Light. God doesn’t only want us to know that His name is Jehovah, He wants us to know HIM personally. The Lord Jesus said, in His prayer recorded in John 17, in verse 3, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” May all who read these pages fall down before the Lord Jesus Christ in worship and adoration, and in repentance of their sins, believing that it was for him/her that Jesus died on the cross and rose again, that they too might enter into His Kingdom, which shall have no end.
