Farm Surveys
All farmers need to be able to develop a plan for their farm, and this exercise helps develop that skill in the Volunteers. It also provides the Farm with a fresh perspective on their operation - and hopefully some good ideas as well!
Farm Surveys may include:
Interview - initial discussion of Farm's values, resources, priorities, and goals
Observations - notes taken by Volunteer on walking tour of Farm
Maps - satellite imagery of farm units
Farm Units - identification of individual units / divisions / departments of farm (i.e. Livestock, Garden, Facilities, &c)
Personnel - listing of people available to help out
Task Lists - unordered list of farm-related tasks to be prioritized, researched, delegated, and scheduled
Research - task-specific research to be performed as time allows
Project Schedule - dynamic schedule of farm tasks using Google Calendar
Proposal - summary of workable farm unit plans prepared by Volunteer for the Farm's consideration
Examples of Farm Surveys will be posted below with permission of respective Farms & Volunteers ---
