Work At A Vet In High School

In the last 3 years of my high school years on Curaçao I was able to work a few hours at one of the vets on Curaçao. It was a wonderful way to get an inside in the study I wanted to do. Since my dog died from something unknown I wanted to be an animal doctor. There were no pet cemeteries or crematory on Curaçao, so I was allowed to give my dog a sailor’s grave goodbye. A goodway to get to know the said side of being a vet.

Assisting A Vet

I learnt about preparing dogs and cats for operations, assist with castrating and sterilization of dogs and cats. I learnt to vaccinate dogs, also I was able to go on house calls with the vet to assist. He was one of the first vets on the island which did house calls.

Choose A Study From A Book

It was a good way to see the study I choose from a book in practice, before starting with it. That’s why it is necessary for the youngsters of the Dutch Caribbean Islands to get to see role models in practice before they choose to do a study in the big Netherlands. The Netherlands, a far away country where it always rains. Most of the population of  Curaçao know The Netherlands only form books, newspapers or oral stories of families there in the cold strange country with snow.
