My Drivers License

Just before my 18th birthday I started my driving course. The theory I passed with 0 faults, but the driving itself was a crime when I was having the exam. Almost everything went okay actually except parking and the first time I had to switch gears. I was allowed to park again and passed my driving exam within 3 months.

Driving In Holland

I almost never drove on Curaçao and also my parents had automatic cars. So stick driving was something I only did in the about 16 driving lessons I got. Although I told this at my side job promoting brands as Coca Cola, Pringles and Aquarius, they wanted me to drive the biggest thing I can drive with a B drivers license to all the promotion locations. I went everywhere with the promotion teams and the free samples of these products from Maastricht to Hoofddorp, etc. After a while I got a bit comfortable behind the wheels, because I asked them to put people who could drive in the team, so I only needed to drive one-way.

Driving The Biggest Car Allowed With A B Drivers License

When I started promoting Hot & Steamy, frozen food that could be microwaved I had to drive a fully loaded truck which was allowed with a B drivers license. I wasn’t comfortable behind the wheels but did it. But one time it went totally wrong. I was going to Scheveningen with the samples and I had to take the Ring Amsterdam. I stopped at the lights and had to turn and couldn’t hold the loop and the whole thing collapsed on a sunny day like this weekend. It was even mentioned in the traffic jam news on the radio.

The Accident

Some other drivers got me and the other promotion team member out of the car and a whole team of police, firemen and ambulance where there and checked if I was okay. After that they sat there in the sun laughing about the incident. One of the managers came to pick us up and immediately put me behind the wheels again. I went back to Hoofddorp in such a slow motion, but the manager didn’t care about that. After that I still was suffering from pain in my shoulders, so another manager brought me to the emergency room in Utrecht where I was living back then.

Driving Again

After both my studies I was working at Stogo Onderzoek + Advies and I was doing a lot of research on locations for business parks, and I got again behind the wheels to make pictures of the locations. I actually drove a lot, but always told them I didn’t want to. I never had an accident again, but still don’t like driving and never after I left Stogo Onderzoek + Advies drove again. And I am not planning on driving ever again, so the money for renewing my drivers license can go to my student debt.

My Contribution To 17 Goals The World Has To Reach

When I am not behind the wheels I get nauseous in the car. So I will stick with public transport! It is also better for the environment. That is my contribution to the 17 goals the world have to reach in 2030. And because of not driving and having a car I can still eat meat.
