My Last Internship For Business Economics

My second and last internship for the Business Economics study was with Staal & Select. The assignment was to go through their sales administration and come up with a new system to make their work easier and faster.

Getting To Know Their Sales System

After introduction to all the employees I started with going through all their Sales Excels and with those, questions came up. I asked the owner if it was ok if I talked to each employee separately about what the person did in the sales process. He was very happy with that after I explained why I had to know what every person did in the sales administration.

Coming Up With A Solution For Their Sales Administration

After all the interviews I made a flow chart of all the process in the sales administration. And went back to the owner to ask if he would like to invest in Access instead of Excel, because then the process would be faster and better registered.

Building The Sales Administration In Access

With the flow chart it was easy to translate the sales process into tables necessary for the backend of the Access. It was now time to work on the frontend so it would be easier for the employees to fill in the sales data they needed to fill in.

Back To The Employees With Access

Each employee individually got their own form to fill in. I showed them their form and let them loose for a few hours with the form. I got the feed back I needed and changed some things in the system. The frontend was there as the OK to finish the project.

Getting The Data Out Of Access

I had now a shadow sales administration, because they were kind enough to fill in the old and the new system. I had data with that and started with the reports for the accountant, the administration, and the management. Also they could send the qoutes out of the new sales system.

The Finishing Touches

The system was working, and it took over the 'millions' of Excel sheets they were using. I even had time to do something with the layout of the reports and forms. They were styled in the corporate identity (huisstijl) of Staal & Select. When I left, they were all using the sales administration in Access.

Friday Lunches

I loved that they shared their precious Friday lunches with me each Friday. It was a tradition, and I and the other employees always took the time to lunch together on Friday and then leave early.
