Life After Retirement

At 67 and a bit I am allowed to retire according to the government with AOW which I won't get fully because I came to The Netherlands at 19 (more about this in the blog ‘Student in The Netherlands’). I get the AOW minus 8 percent. Luckily I worked a few years for a bosses and managers in my wage years and built up a  pension. One of my pensions even starts in my late fifties. This money was always enough I thought till I saw what bell pepper, tomatoes, and meat cost now in 2023. I must eat a lot of them according to my doctor for the rest of my life. Knowing that I will have to keep earning when I am retired and keep building my pension as an entrepreneur. I do this in different ways and by doing this I can allow myself to take 'Tussenpensioen' and enjoy a hike now and when I am retired.

Volunteering As Barterdeal Or A Small Job

In the Blog 'Barterdeal' I talk about the way I think of volunteering. I see volunteering as a barterdeal. A good example is Wwoofing in Australia where I worked on a Christmas pottery market and got a luxurious room with my own bathroom in return. With this I didn't have to spend money on hotel and food, but I gave a bit of my time to sell pottery at the Christmas market. I saved on money in return for time. As a bonus I got to learn a bit of Northern Territories dialect (One of the Aussie dialects). I loved this barterdeal!

Small Jobs

As an entrepreneur I like to have long-term and short-term projects. A long-term project I have is the Big Data eCourse I made for Laudius and now correct homework of the students. This is steady income, and this is work I can keep doing after retirement. As a student I had also a few small jobs, all can be found on my career page. Most of these small jobs I can also do when I retire to pay for a vacation or other ‘luxe’. When I was supervising exams one colleague told me the money I am making with supervising is going completely to a vacation I am going in a few weeks. I was a bit jealous, because at that time the supervising money was part of my basic income. But after retirement I can always go back to supervising and do the same as that colleague supervise exams to pay for a big hike.

Is A Small Job Enough To Make Up The Gender Gap And Retirement Gap

My retirement gap I already mentioned came with going to study in The Netherlands with 19 and not earlier. This is only the ‘AOW’ gap, 8 percent. I also have a gender gap and pension gap. Further on I had health issues in 2010 which led to a lot of small jobs till 2012. Therefore my pension is scattered around a lot of pension funds and not as big as it was going to be in the jobs I had before my health issue in 2010 (More about my health issue in the blog 'Psychosis NAO & Recovery'). In 2012 I started my own company and with that I started looking around how I could build a pension as an entrepreneur. In 2013 I participated in a crowdfund of an 'MKB' with a small amount. This was successful and I loved the deal in which I lend money to the ‘MKB’ entrepreneur and got interest in form of profit together with the money I lend. This made me invest more on crowdfunding platforms, other by ‘AFM’ (Autoriteit Financiele Markt) or notary supervised crowdfundings (More about this in my blogs: 'Build wealth' and 'How do I invest in crowdfunding'). This is penny work, but it helps making up for my gender gap and retirement gap. In the blog 'My Gender Gap & Retirement Gap' I talk more about how these gaps started in the first place and how I am trying to repair them.
