Maynell 3-0 Bow Badgers

After double relegation Badgers found themselves kicking off against Maynell on Mabley Green. Jay kicked it to Mike and then Mike kicked it to someone else. Badgers had the first good attempt on goal when Mike crashed a header on to the crossbar but the ball came back out and was cleared by the long leg of the Maynell centre-half. Maynell had the majority share of possession in the first half but didn’t look very dangerous infront of goal. Badgers looked solid defensively at corners so Maynell were forced to rethink their set-piece tactics. It was a great bit of thinking. Really clever. It went some like this – line up in the penalty area in the same way they had for the previous corners but get the corner taker to do a bad kicker. It was brilliant as it forced Rob to call for the header and for the Bow Badgers to begin to push out and then for Rob to duck and let the ball go into the goal. The ball did graze postman Ollie’s bum on the way in but the corner taker had the best claim for the goal. There was no doubt about the second goal. Simon rose (unmarked) like a constipated squirrel and headed the ball with gusto into the top corner. 2-0 Maynell. There wasn’t much excitement in the second half. Maynell did grab a 3rd goal and Badgers had a few long shots. Craig and Keith made their debuts which was nice.
