Interview with Bow Badgers star Nick Daly

-Tell us about yourself..

Well, I am 18 and from New Zealand, and signed for the Badgers on a short term contract in December as a free agent. I am a natural striker, but have enjoyed my time in many positions for Bow, and probably found myself on the wing. I am an absolute West Ham fan and thoroughly enjoyed watching Winston Reid score the winner against Millwall at Upton Park. All-time favourite player would have to be Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst or Paolo Di Canio. Favourite goal would be a close one, either Di Canio’s wonder volley, but most likely his juggle volley against Chelsea. I love a good curry and can’t help but fall victim to a kebab from the local Turks.

-What made you want to sign for the club from New Zealand?

Well, I had heard of the Badgers and knew they had the potential to do well. They could score goals, at both ends, so they definitely knew where the net was. The manager was great despite the language barrier, but we got through it and I was having fun playing football for Bow. I was a little worried that the speculation of controversy around the signing of my Brother and I, and I didn’t want to be docked points. Especially didn’t want to have the club pay a relegated club millions just for them to go down 2 leagues.

-You played in 6 positions, is this just an example of your class?

Yes, Goal Keeper, Left wing/midfield, Right Wing/midfield, Striker, Left Back and centre back. I like to think that I was reliable for my diversity. I picked up man of the match at left wing, and enjoyed either wing, although the main objective was team success and that was found when I played goalkeeper winning 6-3. I was pleased to pick up an assist but was disappointed not to score a goal. I was especially disappointed to find out that I was a few goals behind our best player, a Mr O.G. but I hope to continue any form I had into the future.

-You are leaving the Bow Badgers this week?

Yes, it really hurts, but I was unable to renew my Visa to Hackney. Seems having a British passport was not enough and I have been refused my Visa. So I am unable to sign a new contract with the Badgers. I would love to continue with Bow, but am also happy to leave unbeaten in February, it’s a great achievement for the club, and they deserve it! I have become a free agent and seem to be attracting some potential interest in Palmerston North in New Zealand, particularly from Massey University FC. I wish the Bow Badgers all the best in the future, and will be sure to follow their success. I am considering buying/sponsoring a corporate box, so that I can come watch them whenever.
