The Club’s aim is to encourage the development of young swimmers in the Ashbourne district, giving them a competence at a sport that will last them a lifetime. We teach, develop and practice all aspects of swimming including competitive swimming and aim to send swimmers to the county and regional championships. The club is affiliated to the East Midlands region of Swim England and trains at Ashbourne Leisure Centre.
The club encourages excellence in swimming at all standards and runs development, junior and senior programmes. These look to take swimmers beyond the Swim England "Learn to Swim" scheme through specific training programmes and by participating in local, county and regional competitions.
The Development Squad trains on a Monday evening and is aimed at younger swimmers, typically 7 to 9 years old, who are reaching the end of the Learn to Swim programme. Following this, swimmers move to the Junior Squads and can increase their training. At the strongest end of the Junior Squad, swimmers could be training 3 times a week. The Senior Squad is for more advanced swimmers and trains up to 4 times a week.
To join the club, swimmers should be able to swim 50 meters (2 lengths) of front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke and make an attempt at butterfly.
Regular taster sessions are held for potential new members to see if they like it and to assess their skills. We provide full swim coaching to all members of the club.
The Club provides not only an opportunity to excel and gain a great outside interest but also the social benefits of being part of a club and team. We hold an annual club championships and a disco and presentation evening amongst other events.
You don’t have to be a great swimmer to join us, all we ask is that you are enthusiastic about swimming and want to be part of a club that’s wants to have fun. The club is targeted at competitive swimming but we also cater for those who just want to stay fit and enjoy themselves!
So why not JOIN US!
