Step 1: Pre-read
- Look at the images included with the article
- Read the Title and Essential Question (subtitle)
- Preview Vocabulary (use dictionary, translate, or picture dictionary for support)
- Go back to the video I made if you don't remember how to use these tools.
Step 2: Listen and Read
1st listen & read - Follow along with transcript. Stop when you need to use the resources to understand better
2nd listen & read - Listen and use the listening organizer as you hear the phrases check them off.
3rd listen & read - Re-read the Essential Question - listen all the way through. Pause and reflect on the Essential Question.
Step 3: Comprehension
- Answer the questions using complete sentences.
- You may go back to the text and audio as many times as you need.
- It is normal to need to hear and read it several times.
- Read your answers out loud or before you submit.
- If you remember how, you can put your answer in Word and have it read to you! That is a great way to hear if your writing makes sense!
LEVEL UP: optional extension
- Listen to an extended public radio interview with one of the Little Rock Nine — Carlotta Walls. The conversation includes Lisa Frazier Page, a reporter who wrote the book “A Mighty Long Way: My Journey to Justice at Little Rock Central High School” with Walls.
