General Woodwork

Added 21 May 2021

This is 3 ft toy box I made for my 9 month old granddaughter, Isabel. The frame was made from Pine, the panels and base from Birch plywood, and the lid from Sycamore. The letters were cut from Walnut that I glued to a Sycamore backplate. There is actually a bit of turning on it, the feet, made from Tulipwood.

As a diversion I made a chess board (15" x 15"). The pieces were a present for my 10th birthday. I have always wanted a wooden board, and it took me just 57 years to get around to making it.

The squares are made from Beech and Walnut with Maple separators. Around the outside is Macassar Ebony and Pomelle Sapele and the chequer pattern corner pieces are African Blackwood and Maple with Sycamore and Black stained Tulipwood veneers.

The base for the board is 18mm Birch plywood and the veneers were cut to a nominal 0.1”. I made the veneers myself with the exception of the Sycamore and Tulipwood. The bottom was covered with red baize.

I made this Adirondack chair ten or eleven years ago (2009 ish) from Cedar. Still in use.

An oak side table made for our conservatory at the previous house, as above it was made about ten years ago.

Boot room bench made from Walnut and Pine. This was made in Q1, 2019 for the new house in Rutland where we have the luxury of a room for the shoes, boots, and coats.
