Each ring that makes up a segmented bowl will need to be turned flat and then sanded before it can be assembled.  How to grip it?  Something a    woodturner is often concerned about.  Roy Child suggested I use carpet tape to stick the rings to a wooden faceplate, and it works very well.  When the work needs to be removed there is the problem of white spirit sloshing about, and levering the ring off without damaging it.  Again not usually a problem but I wanted something cleaner and more secure.

Mentioned in Jack Cox's book, Beyond Basic Woodturning.  I am told that he was the first to write about the method.  From discussions I have had with a few woodturners this is not a method widely used for woodturning, but it deserves to be, and I use it pretty much all the time in one form or another.

Usually done with a chasing tool, this uses another method which can be used to make larger threads.
