Chassis

A frame jig was constructed from recovered steel from previous student projects. Solid pieces of 3" angle iron was used to frame the table. The jig was supported by a heavy steel table fitted with large bolts and nuts to level off the table. The table top measured 10ft by 4ft.

Our chassis was built to scta spec using the 2009 rule book as a reference. Our design was sent to the head technical inspector of the SCTA who approved our chassis in early February.

Our Frame rails were constructed of 3"x2" 0.125 wall mild steel. We needed 10.5deg angles put into the rails in the front and in the back for our chassis to fit into the body. A 3"x .188 wall DOM tube was used for the front crossmember.

The roll cage was constructed from 1.75" 4130 tubing which was purchased from Mr. Norm Rapp. All the tubing was bent by us, using Mr. Greg Martinez's equipment.
