What does Web 2.0 Mean?

What does the term Web 2.0 Tools Mean? How can it help you beyond high school?

Web 2.0 is the term given to describe the second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. Web 2.0 basically refers to the transition from static HTML Web pages to a more dynamic Web that is more organized and is based on Web applications.

Other improved functionality of Web 2.0 includes open communication with an emphasis on Web-based communities of users, and more open sharing of information.

There is a large variety of Web 2.0 tools available for free on the internet. The goal of this class is to have you become familiar with a few of the more common and useful tools you will encounter, and to demonstrate how they work and how they can assist you in high school, college and your future career.

After researching these tools, you will have the opportunity to demonstrate and teach your tool to your class.

Your Assignment:

TEACH the class your assigned tool. Remember, you and your partner (if you're working with one) must learn the tool; you cannot teach a tool unless you know how it works, first.

Your presentation should be a minimum of 8 minutes and consist of the following: (this may be done in any presentation tool you learned in this class. (I.e. PowerPoint / Prezi / Animoto, etc)

  1. The name of your web tool
  2. What is the purpose of this web tool? What does it do?
  3. Who would use it? Why they would use it? How? Give us an example how they use it.
  4. Is it free? If there a fee? If there is a fee what extras do you get?
  5. Students will follow along, as you demonstrate the tool via the SmartBoard.

In your presentation you may also include snapshots (using the snipping tool) of the various screens to access while navigating through the web tool

If your presentation requires images to upload, save those images on the M Drive/Computer Applications block 2/Web 2.0 tools folder

If the students need to create an account, make sure you include in your presentation

** REMEMBER: You must create a tutorial for the students to follow along with you **
