Travel Dreams
I am living my travel dream for one month now!
How do I feel about it?
I love it even the hard times, when things don’t work out as planned. I am amazed by my adaptation skills when things change and how well I cope with all the new experiences. Oh, it’s a lot that’s happened in a month of traveling. The funny, weird, the bad; All life experiences which I go through. Sometimes in just one day! I wouldn’t want to miss this for the world.
I?
I love the way I take time for the things and exploring my surroundings and get into a working routine at each new spot for my business. I am also learning new skills as making my heavy Dutch accent in English less, getting my Spanish on professional level and just sit and observe the moment. But what I like most of the new skills I am developing is playing with my camera, interviewing, and writing. I don’t know if I am any good at them, but for the first time I am just doing them with love and without caring if I am any good at them.
Travel Is The Way For Me To Learn
I guess traveling is the way for me to learn to do things without second guessing myself or beating myself up about what others think about what I am doing. Which is a nice side effect! Still publishing things is a bit scary because it shows part of myself to my audience. But I guess it wouldn’t be healthy if it wasn’t.
Workaway & Wwoof
Besides these new skills I am learning for my business, I learn new skills with Workaway and Wwoofing. I volunteer to do things I never did before and discover what I like and don’t like. At my first wwoofing place I helped at a pottery fair, did some gardening and cleaning. I didn’t mind doing these things. The second experience in volunteering was on Workaway near Adelaide, that didn’t work out. But there I learned a new skill too standing up for myself in English and explaining why I wouldn’t stay there and managing the anger of the artist because he didn’t agree with me. I was proud on the way I handled it and how I coped with it emotionally. Some growing there!
Tourist Booklets On Kangaroo Island
And now I am again using Workaway on Kangaroo Island (2013) at Seal Bay Cottages and café. Here I have to clean, serve, do kitchen preparations, do the cash register and I have also been working on putting together a booklet for the tourists staying in the cabins. I am surprised I like serving and doing the cash register. And of course being me I like making the booklets with all the touristic brochures. But there is one thing I don’t think I am ever gone like that’s the kitchen! I hate it!! And that’s mildly said ;-). I am no good at cutting things, they have to be a certain way, I don’t have the patience for that. But that I can cope with, but what’s hard for me is being in the smell of fried food all the time. Everything smells after my shift is done. I guess I won’t be eating fish and chips or any fried thing for a while :-D! I ate fish and chips again in the autumn of 2014 in Kaikoura, New Zealand.
Wwoof Or Tourist
I hope to do some more volunteering in the coming months to learn some new skills. What I would like to do is work with animals, work in national parks, work with women rights organizations and teaching. But learning other skills I haven’t thought of yet would be nice too. A pity that there is a lot to see in Australia and the distances are big. And of course the Wwoof places on the east coast are very popular. I was a tourist for the rest of my travel through Australia. In New Zealand I was not allowed to do Wwoof, because I have a Dutch Passport.
