Traveler VS Tourist

I like to call myself a traveler or say I'm traveling rather than calling myself a tourist. I always associate tourists with people, who see almost nothing in a country and who quickly rush through all the tourist spots. However, I am a tourist every now and then, I must confess unfortunately for the following reasons.

I Ask About Penguins

In the middle of the Australian summer I ask about Penguins. Well, how can I talk this right? I had heard that on the island of Kangaroo, off the coast of Adelaide, there would be penguins. And yes, I went there for 3 weeks (volunteer work in exchange for room and board) and decided to stay an extra week to discover the island. Fresh off the ferry, I walked on the beach and asked a passerby, where the penguins were. Before I entered the beach, I had seen a sign do not approach penguins. The answer was in Antarctica: In the Australian summer they seek out the cold. Oops, read it!

The Tourist Bus Along All The Highlights

If I don't have much time in a city or the attractions are far from each other, I sometimes want to take the hop on, hop off bus. It's a good way to get to all the attractions for little money, but the story they often tell about the attractions on the bus is usually disappointing. I am always disappointed and am looking for more background information.

Greetings In English In A Non-English Country

It's nice if I can say thanks, halo, etc. in the language of the country. Unfortunately, I don't always manage to remember this. I don't have a knack for languages and sometimes I just forget. I am the tourist, who only greets in English.

If I Am Addressed in English In The Netherlands Instead Of Dutch

Sometimes I am mistaken for a tourist in Amsterdam, tourist spot in The Netherlands and in Eindhoven. Then shop staff, waiters and TUE employees speak English to me. Sometimes I let them think and answer in English and sometimes I start in Dutch.
