Participating In A Survey

Not everyone is eager to participate in a survey. Many give an excuse and then hope to get out of it. I have listed the 7 most common reasons used to get out of a survey.

Ignores Me

This person thinks that by ignoring me, I don't see that person either. I say, "Good morning," and get nothing in return. Not even a look or good morning. They often hurry past me and pretend I am not talking to them.

Never Participate In Surveys

The notorious refusers. These people never participate in surveys and it is often not possible to convince them to participate. I save my energy and salute them and move on to my next victim. Sometimes they think surveys and research are nonsense and others don't participate for reasons of principle.

Don't Know About This

This group does not think they can make a meaningful contribution, because they know nothing about the subject, but their opinion is also important. But sometimes people say this to get rid of me and my survey. Sometimes a little extra explanation about the survey is enough to get this group to participate.

Partially Fill Out Survey

This group asks me for the survey, but actually don’t want to fill in the survey and takes every opportunity to return the survey to me without completing it. The real reasons are that they don’t want to participate. Often they say I have an important phone call or start a chat with someone instead of filling in the survey.

I've Been Participating So Many Times, I'll Skip This Time

And finally I have found someone who does surveys on a regular basis, he or she doesn't feel like participating this time. These once I can’t even convince to participate this time, but sometimes they see me busy handing out surveys to others and they say I want to participate on second thought too!

No Time

Most heard reason, no time. Sometimes it's an excuse and sometimes it's real. They have to catch a train, have an exam, have a job interview or an appointment to name just a few of the no-time reasons. Sometimes it helps if I indicate that the survey will only take a few minutes. Only do this if it really takes just a few minutes.

No Sense

This group is the most honest and I always have to laugh with them because they honestly say they don't feel like it. And often they say SORRY. Well, I can't beat that!
