Collaborations/Projects

The group often works on collaborations, where each artist adds to or modifies each other's work in a communal manner or otherwise produce art as a group. We also work on group projects where we each produce a piece of art individually based on communal theme.

Each Fiberforum member involved with this project created a piece of art that includes at least one red square. Each piece is  8"x8".

Each Fiberforum member involved with this project created a piece of art 4"x6".  We exchanged our art pieces using a random drawing.

Each Fiberforum member began this project with an identical collection of materials made up from their fellow members’ contributions. The goal was to create a work of art using at least one-third of the items.

Each person involved with this collaborative project created a piece of art based on the idea of contemplation. This included totems, mandalas, shrines, etc. Each participant then worked on everyone else's art, interpreting and expanding it in a visual manner.

The members decided to look back to our very first collaborative project. Each person involved with this project created the beginnings of a piece of art that measured 12" x 12". Each participant then worked on everyone else's piece, interpreting and expanding it. Final works reflect the collaborative efforts of 12 artists. Originally there were 12 participants, but only 11 are represented here.

Fiberforum members created a two-sided page for a book with a nature theme. The pages were then assembled into an accordion book.

Twelve Fiberforum members interpreted 3 randomly chosen letters (a-z) or numbers (0-9) in a variety of fiber media and techniques.

Each Fiberforum members cut up a garment (e.g., blouse, dress, jacket, robe) into twelve sections, some with sleeves, collars or plackets still intact. We each had 12 garment pieces to work with as our basic palette. Using these fabrics, plus additional materials of our choosing, each artist began a new work of art which was then passed around so the other participants could add their contributions. Final works reflect the collaborative efforts of 12 artists.

Each Fiberforum member went to the Bass Pro store in northwest Ohio. We wandered the aisles, examining fishing tackle, camping supplies and fudge, all the while listening to our fellow shoppers. We used overheard phrases, or even a word or two, of snatched conversation as inspiration for the art we produced for this project. The title of each piece is the overheard word or phrase.

Words served as the inspiration for this collaborative project. Fiberforum members contributed 5 words in the following 7 categories: colors, art words, objects, verbs, adjectives, locations, and emotions. Each person then drew one word at random from each category. Those words inspired the beginning of a piece of art that was passed around to be worked on by all participants. Every piece had its own set of words that traveled with the artwork, to be interpreted and expanded upon by each individual artist.

A black & white photograph of a woodland scene by photographer David Bewley was divided into sections. Each member re-created a segment in her choice of color and fiber media. The result is a composite view of the forest.

Each participant of Fiberforum created two portraits. One was a self-portrait, created totally by the artist in their choice of media. The other portrait was created in fiber media and passed around the group, allowing each member to contribute to everyone else's art work.

Each person involved with this project came up with an idea for a book format (traditional or non-) and set the size and theme. Each participant then worked on everyone else's "book"  by interpreting that idea in a visual manner. When everyone had an opportunity to contribute to a "book," the original artist assembled all the parts of the book she started into a finished piece.

Each person involved with this project created a basic doll form. Each participant then worked on everyone else's doll, interpreting and expanding it in a visual manner.
