2012 - June "Field Day" Sprint

Wow! is an understatement of this close finish. If this sprint were a horse race, the win, the place, and the show were within steps of each other. First place goes to Andy N2FYE who scored 308 points. At only 8 points behind was Rex NX8G working from Ohio and whose 50 point bonus pushed him into second place. At third place is long time favorite Bob K3QIA who followed Rex by only 10 points. When the horse race is this close, I think it only appropriate to award three certificates this month. And let's not over look Chris G7OGX who took first place in the DX Division. My heartiest congratulations go out to all.

2012 - May "Dayton Hamvention" Sprint

Propagation must have been quite the challenge, or maybe it was because attendance at the Hamvention this year was over 25,000. Whatever the case, four members turned in their scores, and tip of the hat and our congratulations go to Andy N2FYE for his perseverence.

2012 - April "New Member" Sprint

Eleven logs were submitted for the April new member sprint. April was chosen for this month's theme to allow those members

signing up at the 2011 Dayton Hamvention a final opportunity to work as a new member. Here on out, you are all now officially

"old timers".

One scoring change was made. Initially, 100 points was award for contacting non-members. If a member's number was 01 through 99 then the working station would receive less points than working a non-member. I didn't think that this made any sense, so I added 100 points to the membership number to determine the score for working that station. I hope this makes sense, but I wanted to level the playing field, even if just a little.

That said, here they are:

2012 - March "Leprechaun" Sprint

From my log review, there were at least 25 hams particpating in this sprint, and in spite of difficult band conditions. There were four leprechauns and working one of them during their "shifts" gave an additional 50 points, and the four are listed below

K3QI Bob PA from 1600 - 1630

NX8G/5 Rex LA from 1630-1700

KC2RXS John NY from 1700-1730

KJ8O Joe MI 1730-1800

My initial thinking was that being a leprechaun would be unfair advantage to the others. Also leprechauns were encouraged

to work contestants a second time and even though there would be no points earned, the QSO partner would at least get the bonus. So the leprechauns ended up in their own category.

Tim N9FTC had the highest overall score for first place in the NA-Regular category. Rex NX8G/5 was second place overall and in first place of the leprechauns, and Mike KE0WW took first place in QRP. Congratulations to all, special thanks to the Leprechauns and good luck in the next sprint.
