How popcorn funds your Scout

Pack 246 earns 31% of the total proceeds from the popcorn sales. In the past, all of that money went into the Pack general fund and was used to pay for advancements, outing patches, pinewood, Blue & Gold, equipment, deposits, etc. In addition, the Pack payed half of either Cub Scout Day Camp or Webelos Resident Camp.

Beginning Fall 2013, you and your Scout's popcorn selling efforts will go directly towards funding their activities. Each Scout will have an individual account that reflects their sales. Most of the 31% that the Pack takes in will go into the Scout's account with a small portion going towards the Pack general fund. Pack 246 will no longer cover half of Cub Scout Day Camp or Webelos Resident Camp; however, the money in your son's individual account can be put towards any event held this year or carried over to be used in future years. When your Cub Scout bridges over to Boy Scouts, in their fifth grade year, any funds in their account will follow them to Troop 246 as they bridge. If they bridge over to another Troop or decide not to continue in Scouting, Pack 246 will graciously accept the money in their account as a donation into the Pack general fund.

This is an exciting change that we think will benefit the individual families and encourage increased popcorn sales while making it fair for all who participate. The funds earned by each Scout will be based on their sales and will not be limited to just Cub Scout Day Camp or Webelos Resident Camp but can be used for any outing that you choose. We think that this will make the Popcorn sale more important to all families. The more popcorn that you and your Scout sell, the less money that will need to come out of your pocket throughout the year!

  • Pack 246 earns 31% of the total proceeds from the popcorn sale.

  • Each Scout will have an individual account that will reflect their sales.

  • For each Scout, 75% of the 31% received by the Pack from their sales will go into the individual Scout account.

  • The remaining 25% will go into the Pack 246 general fund to pay for advancements, outing patches, pinewood, Blue & Gold, etc.

  • During Show & Sells, the sales for the night will be distributed based on the number of hours worked by each Scout with 75% of the 31% received by the Pack deposited into their account.

  • The amount earned during Popcorn Blitzes are based on the individual efforts of the Scout. Some may sell more than others, but you will still get 75% of the 31% received by the Pack from their sales deposited into your account.

  • Parents can add money to the account any time they would like. This will allow you write one check for everything that your Scout participates in at one time or break it up into multiple payments. The money can be taken directly out of the account to cover outings or events.

Please contact Rodger Farnham (Committee Chair) or Charlie Lownsdale (Cubmaster) if you have any questions or concerns about how this program will work.
