In November 2016, Deirdre, Jenny and Ans launched a world-wide request to health care professionals and mothers, fathers and their families to send “special stories about childbirth” that they want to share with other people. This request was spread through personal channels as well as well-known internet channels and fora world-wide. The result of this request was global Advent Calendar, with 28 special birth stories that health care professionals and women and their families wanted to share about childbirth in the special Advent time leading up to Christmas. One of the stories was presented each day of Advent 2016 through Facebook and Twitter. All of these stories together are, now, collected in a Special Birth Story Book. The Special Birth Stories are birth stories that represent special moments in the lives of the women, men and families that sent them, and still have a special place in their hearts, when they think about them. The stories are about the wonder of birth, but also about loss, risk and pain, have had a special impact on them, and their lives, and very special life-long feelings attached to them. This special book brings to life the voices of women, men and their families through their stories at a particular time of the year which celebrates birth.
