Using the FamilySearch Source Box

Using the Source Box in FamilySearch

You cannot use the sourcebox unless you have a (free) account. If you do not have an account yet go to

https://familysearch.org/search and up in the right hand corner click on Join for Free

If you have an account make certain you are signed in

Find the record you want to keep track of

Look for the Source Box icon – it is not always in the same place. In indexed records it is often just above the record. In other records it is sometimes up in the right hand corner of the screen with a file cabinet icon that says SOURCES

Choose Add to My Source Box

Add a descriptive note to the front of the Source Title (put your curser before the title that is there to add further notes)

Examples:

1833 Will of John Adams, Nelson Co. KY

1822 Court record for Frances Lewis

Click SAVE

To view your source box click on go to my source box on the sourcebox icon.

All of your saved items will appear on the main part of the page.

You may organize like – subjects by adding a NEW FOLDER, naming it and clicking on the green check mark

To DELETE a source click on the box to the left of your saved source then pull down the MOVE pull down box at the top of the screen – at the bottom of the box it gives you the option to REMOVE FROM SOURCEBOX

To add a source from anywhere on the Internet

Click CREATE SOURCE at the top of the page – type in a title and add the url and that is all there is to it.
