Snipping web pages & images

Snipping and Labeling Images for Your Genealogy

All pcs from Windows 7 upward have a snipping tool. For some reason they do not make it very obvious. To find it and keep it where it is handy do the following:

From your start menu at the bottom is the search programs and files box

Type Snip and search - at the top under programs you should see the snipping tool

RIGHT CLICK ON the Snipping Tool in the menu

it will let you save it to your taskbar or if you prefer you can choose “send to” and make a shortcut somewhere

Saving images after you have the snipping tool

Make a save folder where you can find it (desktop or my documents etc.)

Type your citation information into Wordpad so that you have it ready to attach to your image

This can include author, title, where you found it and the url if you have one

Clip your item by choosing NEW on the snipping tool

Draw a box around what you want and snip

Under file (top left corner) choose save as – name your file

Below the place where you name the file paste your citation where you see Add your Title (bottom right hand corner. If you don’t see it pull the box bigger till it appears)
