Keeping our students engaged by creatively connecting the dots between movement and storytelling.

The project was spearheaded by Earl of March's own Allison Carrier and NAC Dance Education Associate and Teaching Artist Siôned Watkins.

Now in its fourth incarnation, this hugely successful project for Grades 7 to 12 brings the unique, culturally diverse voices of four Storytellers together with creative movement coaches to help students collaborate on the creation of a new dance work.

Movement Coaches:

Siôned Watkins, Allison Carrier, Geoffrey Dollar

Storytellers:

Just Jamaal the Poet, Doreen Stevens, Kristina Watt, Jacqui Du Toit

Winter/Spring 2021

Moving Stories has been reimagined on a digital platform for winter 2021.

Students will hear stories directly from one of four Storytellers. Each story will form the inspiration for a creative collaboration between the students of each class. Workshops with movement coaches will offer guidance on how to tap into the power of stories and transport them through movement. As there is no access to a physical theatre for a final group performance, teachers are encouraged to conceive of a performance opportunity for their students’ creations, either live within safety guidelines, or through digital media.

Two sessions with a Storyteller, and three workshops with movement coaches will be organized for each participating class. Sharing will take place virtually.
