Dialogue Journals

Reading and writing are two very important parts of your child’s education and life. This journal begins a year-long authentic writing activity called a “Dialogue Journal”. This will be an opportunity for your child to practice reading and writing while building a bond with me, and your family will get to share in on the writing experience!

Your child will bring home his/her red Dialogue Journal every Friday with a letter written to you. Please take some time over the weekend to write a letter back to your child in the space provided on the same page. After he/she reads your letter, please make sure the Dialogue Journal gets put back in your child’s bookbag. Your child gets to choose between writing from a prompt (located in the front of the journal) or writing his/her own letter (found halfway through the journal). He/She will put a place-marker (ribbon) in the page where he/she wrote his/her letter for the week so you know where to begin writing. During the week, your child and I will write a letter back and forth to each other as well. Our letters will serve as models and fun text for your child to read!

Thank you for taking the time to support this activity! Let’s work together so that it enriches your child and our relationship with him/her!
