Keynote 5:

Reflections on abolition from Albert Woodfox

Friday 15 April 2021 ~ 7:00 - 7:30pm Pacific

Albert Woodfox

This session features a pre-recorded message with subtitles from Albert Woodfox. Participants will be able to pose questions which will be conveyed to him asynchronously. Due to the last minute nature of this addition to our program, ASL interpretation might not be available with regrets from the organizing committee.

Albert Woodfox was released in 2016 after 43 years and 10 months in solitary confinement in a Louisiana State Penitentiary. He is known as one of the Angola 3 along with Robert King and Herman Wallace. During his incarceration, Albert became a member of the Black Panther Party and used his time living in a 6x9 foot cell to build his political consciousness inspired by his mother’s wisdom and to educate those around him. As a free person, he continues to educate the broader public on the need to abolish thinking in terms of prisons in favor of honoring the humanity in each.
