College Costs

The cost of college is made up of direct costs and indirect costs. Direct costs are costs that are charged to your student bill at your college. These include tuition, fees, and room and board (if you are living on campus). Indirect costs are anything else you have to pay for related to your education, including books, supplies, personal expenses, and transportation.

The total of direct cost plus indirect cost equals the cost of attendance at a college. If you subtract your gift aid (scholarships and grants) from the cost of attendance at a certain school, that will give you the net price for you to attend that school.

Check out the resources below to find the net price of schools you are interested in and compare the costs of multiple schools!

Net Price Calculators

Every college is required to include a net price calculator on their website. You will answer a few questions about yourself and your household situation and income, and then the calculator will provide you with an estimate of what you would need to pay to attend that school.
