The 2024 applications for the KC Scholars College Savings Match Scholarship and Traditional Scholarship awards will open on January 9th! The applications will be due on February 23rd, 2024.

What are the eligibility requirements to apply for the Traditional Scholarship?
Be a current 11th grader during the application cycle
Be home-schooled or attend a public, charter, or private high school in the following 6 counties: Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte (MO) or Johnson and Wyandotte (KS)
Be lawfully present in the U.S. or DACA eligible and DACA applied/approved
Have at least a 2.5 cumulative high school unweighted GPA (5 semesters from 9th grade to the fall semester of 11th grade) or at least a 16 on the ACT/800 on the SAT
Be considered low- or modest-income*
*Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) caluclation on the Federal Student Aid Estimator must be 12,000 or less to be considered low- or modest-income. The calculation is based on household income, number of members in the family and number of family members that will be in college at the same time. It is the amount of annual financial support a family can be expected to pay toward the student's college education.
What is the value of the scholarship?
The Traditional Scholarship is valued up to $10,000 a year, renewable for up to 5 years.
What schools can this scholarship be used at?
In order to receive the KC Scholars scholarship, you must plan to attend one of the 17 KC Scholars colleges or universities.
9th Graders - College Savings Match Scholarship
What are the eligibility requirements for the College Savings Match Program?
Be a current 9th grader during the application cycle
Be home-schooled or attend a public, charter, or private high school in the following 6 counties: Cass, Clay, Jackson and Platte (MO) or Johnson and Wyandotte (KS)
Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien with a verified permanent U.S. adress and valid social security number or other taxpayer identification
Have at least a 2.5 cumulative unweighted GPA fall semester of 9th grade
Be considered low- or modest-income*
*Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) calculation on the Federal Student Aid Estimator must be 12,000 or less to be considered low- or modest-income. The calculation is based on houshold income, number of members in the family and number of family members that will be in college at the same time. It is the amount of annual financial support a family can be expected to pay toward the student's college education.
What is a 529 college savings account?
A 529 college savings plan is an investment account that is used for savings for college. KC Scholars works with the Missouri MOST and Kansas Learning Quest programs. College Savings Match awardees will set up a 529 account upon receiving the award, and KC Scholars will match the amount that is put into this account throughout the student's high school career, up to $1,000.
What is the value of the scholarship?
Awarded students will be eligible for a 1:1 match of up to $1,000 and earn incentives for a total of up to $1,400 to use toward college. To earn the $400 in incentives, a student must complete the minimum number of college-ready activities identified for each grade.
What schools can this scholarship be used at?
To receive the match and incentive paid by KC Scholars, you must plan to attend one of the 17 KC Scholars Postsecondary Network institutions.
