About

Who We Are

The KC College Advising Team is part of the Kansas State College Advising Corps and the national College Advising Corps organization. College Advising Corps is an independent non-profit organization that works to increase the rates of college enrollment and completion among low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented high school students. Although our program is housed within K-State, we do not recruit students to attend K-State. All of the advisers on our team live and work in the Kansas City area. We work specifically with students who are recipients of a KC Scholars award who do not have a college adviser who works full-time in their high school. We do not work for KC Scholars, so please direct any questions specifically about your award or portal to the KC Scholars team.

What We Do

Our team provides both one-on-one and group college advising support to students throughout the school year. We work with students in-person and through virtual methods to help them find the postsecondary pathway that will be the best fit for them and their goals. We help our students and their families navigate college applications, financial aid, scholarship applications, college exploration, ACT and SAT preparation, career and major exploration, and the process of transitioning from high school to college. Our in-person meetings take place either at the student's high school, or at another public location such as a coffee shop or library. We also meet with students and parents virtually via phone calls, email, and video chat. We offer various other resources to our students throughout the year, including virtual workshops, campus tours, and regular newsletters.
